During the World Cup on Tuesday (U.S. time), I wondered if others caught the player who was red-carded sitting in the stands. I don’t recall the team but I was startled to see him. He went down on the field (sidelines) and mingled with the team during a break before overtime. I always thought a red card meant a player could not be on the field and could not interact with the players. Is there somewhere where I could find clarification?
Hi, Sheila!
A red card only means the respective footballer cannot play in that game, so he can’t be on the field. They usually go and sit on the bench (sidelines) with their teammates. We hope you enjoyed the World Cup as much as we did!
Have a nice day!
